'This video was taken on Burma Banks during a liveaboard trip. We wanted to look for sharks on the westridge of the Banks, but the dive started not very good, we jumped on the wrong place, at the wrong time and the current was not the predicted one ... so no way to get back to the reef. But what started under worst circumstances turned out to be one of the best dives I have ever made.
Being one with a school of barracudas, turning in different directions, dancing the underwater waltz ... '

Six-Legged 'Hexapus' Could Be World's First (AFP)

March 3, 2008 -- British marine experts have found what they claim is a world first -- a six-legged octopus, or "hexapus," whom they have christened Henry.

The unique sea creature, which has two limbs fewer than a normal octopus, is believed to be the result of a birth defect rather than an accident, say his keepers at the Blackpool Sea Life Center in northwest England.

"We've scoured the Internet and talked to lots of other aquariums and no-one has ever heard of another case of a six-legged octopus," said supervisor Carey Duckhouse.

Henry was discovered in a lobster pot off the north Wales coast two weeks ago, and was one of eight creatures that Sea Life staff picked up from a local marine zoo there -- where staff hadn't noticed his missing legs.

It was only when he attached himself to the inside of a glass tank that Sea Life staff noticed he was two limbs short of a full set. Octopuses are renowned for having three hearts and blue blood, but not usually six legs.

"He's a lovely little thing," said a spokeswoman, adding that he will go on display to the public later this month.

(Nov 14, 2007 15:01 EST) Marine Researcher Discovers New Species Of Sea Slug Off Coast:'Little Strawberry'

A new species of sea slug was discovered off the coast of Green Island by Taiwanese marine biologist Chen Ming-huei. It has been temporarily nicknamed "little strawberry" until an official name can be determined.

Chen, a research assistant at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, found the slug while conducting a survey of soft-body animals. Chen and his team were commissioned by the Taiwanese Coral Reef Society to investigate the marine life in the area to determine whether Green Island should be included in the Construction and Planning Agency's plan to establish a marine park along the Dong Sha Atoll.

Chen reportedly set a new record by finding more than 30 species of sea slugs native to Green Island during his survey. To confirm his finding, Chen sent an e-mail to a sea slug expert, Richard Willan - the curator of molluscs at the Northern Territories Museum in Darwin, Australia. Willan confirmed that "little strawberry," a type of nudibranch, which belongs to the Trotonia species, was a new discovery.
